A Ukrainian family from the US has raised funds for school supplies for internally displaced children supported by the Rokada charity.

In the Zhytomyr region, children from four internally displaced families have received aid from benefactors in the United States. Oleksiy and Nadiya Lisohor donated the raised funds to the Rokada charity to purchase school supplies.

“A woman who is familiar with our foundation’s work approached us about a Ukrainian couple in America who wanted to support children evacuated with their families from high-risk regions to the Zhytomyr area,” said Kateryna Ostapenko, coordinator of Rokada’s regional office. “We are currently working with four such families, raising eleven children between them, who are in genuine need of support. We have spoken with the parents to identify their exact needs.”

For Olha Khomych, a single mother of five, preparing for the school year is a massive financial challenge every year. This autumn, she had to get four of her school-aged children ready for classes. The family relocated to Zhytomyr from the Zaporizhzhia region.

“My youngest son has just started first grade, so the Lisohors’ support came at the perfect time, and we are infinitely grateful to our benefactors,” the mother of four schoolboys said. “Getting four boys ready for school is a major expense. With the money saved, I was able to buy them other essentials and clothes.”
“The youngest was especially thrilled with the gifts,” she added. “He really wanted to go to school just like any other child—with a backpack fully packed with everything he needs. But we could only afford something cheap. When he finally got exactly what he had dreamed of, his happiness knew no bounds.”

The funds donated by Ukrainian-Americans were intended for a foundation that could be fully trusted.

We are honored that Oleksiy and Nadiya chose Rokada, and I hope we have done the job well,” Kateryna Ostapenko concluded. “Our specialists carefully selected high-quality school supplies tailored to the needs of each individual child, ensuring they are practical, modern, and something the children would genuinely love.
