Dignified living and legal protection: Rokada implements a new project in the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions
The project, which focuses on supporting internally displaced Ukrainians and communities affected by the consequences of hostilities, is being implemented by Rokada in the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions. The foundation’s teams will work on improving living conditions in shelters and providing legal assistance to individuals and communities.
“The Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions continue to welcome people who were forced to leave their homes due to the war. Displacement often brings a whole complex of problems, from legal issues to the need to rebuild one’s life in a new place. It is crucial for us that our help is not limited to addressing a single urgent need, but leads to real and long-lasting changes for people,” notes Yana Shyrshova, the project coordinator.
In total, since the start of the full-scale invasion, the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia regions have sheltered around 700,000 internally displaced Ukrainians. Approximately 10% of them have settled in temporary accommodation centres.
“A significant proportion of the internally displaced people living in shelters are individuals with reduced mobility, elderly people, and those requiring additional support. That is why, among other things, this project focuses heavily on inclusivity and accessibility, ensuring that everyone, regardless of their health condition or age, can feel safe and live in dignity within temporary accommodation centres,” adds project coordinator Yana Shyrshova.
PROJECT INCLUDES:
Improving living conditions:
– technical assessment of temporary accommodation centres;
– renovation works;
– implementation of inclusivity and accessibility.
Access to legal assistance:
– іndividual consultations;
– legal assistance in resolving housing, social, and documentation issues;
– information sessions and legal awareness events.
Institutional support:
– trainings for shelter administrations and local partners;
– support for management processes and compliance with shelter operational standards.
The project Dignified Living and Legal Protection of Internally Displaced and War-Affected Persons in the Dnipropetrovsk and Zaporizhzhia Regions is implemented by the Rokada Charitable Foundation in cooperation with the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) with funding from Norway.
