Interactive training on countering digital violence held for women in Sumy region

Rokada gender-based violence specialist Olena Tykhonova brought women of the Romny community in Sumy region together for interactive training on countering digital violence.

Almost thirty people joined the event.

“It is practically impossible to live without the internet and social media today – that is our reality. So being knowledgeable about digital safety, including the gender-based violence that happens there, is simply essential,” says participant Nataliia.

“We worked on both theory and practice. First, we looked at the main manifestations of digital violence, in particular online harassment, blackmail, sharing private information without consent, and forms of control through digital tools. Then we analysed specific examples and situations,” says the Rokada specialist.

According to a study, 76.8% of women surveyed in Ukraine have experienced at least one form of digital violence. These include receiving unwanted or offensive messages (38.8%), receiving indecent proposals or unwanted sexually explicit content (35.7%), and hacking of personal pages or accounts (35.5%).

The project is implemented by the Rokada Charitable Foundation with the support of Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo (AICS) in partnership with the Bukovinian Agency for Initiatives and Development (BAID) and Un Ponte Per ETS (UPP).
