Raising children without intimidation: in Putyvl, participants discussed how a community can protect children

Olena Tykhonova, Rokada’s specialist on gender-based violence, held an information meeting on violence against children for representatives of village councils in Putyvl, Sumy region.

They discussed common forms of violent parenting, their consequences for a child’s emotional state, and the role of adults in creating a safe environment.

Particular attention was paid to how local self-government can identify such cases in time and ensure families have access to help.

“Violence against children often goes unnoticed because it happens behind closed doors and is disguised as ‘upbringing’. That is why it is so important that people who make decisions in the community understand its signs and know how to act. Respect for a child’s dignity must be a shared value – both in the family and at the community level,” stresses Olena Tykhonova.

The project is implemented by the Rokada Charitable Foundation with the support of Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo (AICS) in partnership with the Bukovinian Agency for Initiatives and Development (BAID) and Un Ponte Per ETS (UPP).
