Social accompaniment of Rokada in action: daily care for those who lost home
When someone loses their home and documents, finding themselves alone in an unfamiliar city, navigating the new reality can feel overwhelming. That is when social workers from Rokada step in, providing comprehensive assistance that includes restoring ID papers, registering for financial aid, long-term support, and simply showing human care.
June 6, 2026, actually became his second birthday and the bitter date of his mother’s death. On that day, a rocket destroyed the home of 68-year-old Taghir Torpishchev from Druzhkivka. He could have died under the rubble of the high-rise building, but, fortunately, volunteers found him. Next was an evacuation train to the west of the country.
“All my documents are lost – they burned. But today I already have new ones – specialists from Rokada in Rivne, where we were evacuated, helped me,” says Taghir Torpishchev, noting that the foundation’s team supports him constantly.
Currently, the man lives in Tuchyn, which is not far from Rivne. His neighbors are three dozen more internally displaced persons from the Donetsk region.
“In a room of four people, two are my fellow countrymen from Druzhkivka. One worked at a porcelain factory, the other at a machine-building factory, there is something to talk about and remember,” he shares.
Taghir Torpishchev says he would like to look into the future with optimism, but for this, in the literal sense, he needs to restore his sight – for a long time now he has practically seen nothing.
Lyubov Zorina, a social specialist of the Rokada regional office, says the foundation has done everything possible so that the man could gradually recover after what he had been through.
“The first medical examination showed that he sees only 3 percent. A person found themselves in a new place, without documents, alone… It would have been very difficult for him to cope with all the routine. We were able to restore the documents, visited doctors, helped to obtain IDP status and social payments. The next step will be the restoration of sight,” says Lyubov Zorina, adding that the other day Taghir Torpishchev was examined again and the date of a free ophthalmological surgery has already been set. “This will give him a chance to be independent again and not rely on third-party help in everyday life. And we will continue to accompany him, because rehabilitation will be needed, and we are already planning these steps together.”
