Insulting comments, fake accounts, sharing other people’s photos without consent – schoolchildren in Sumy talked about cyberbullying and ways to counter it with Rokada GBV specialist Olena Tykhonova.
“Cyberbullying is insidious because it doesn’t end when a child comes home from school. The phone is always nearby, and with it the insults that seem impossible to hide from,” notes Olena Tykhonova. She adds that this is why children need to understand how an ordinary online argument differs from systematic harassment, and how online bullying affects self-esteem, emotional state and relationships with peers. “That is why it is important for teenagers to know that bullying can be stopped. Save the evidence, block the offender, report the content and be sure to tell adults.”
The project is implemented by the Rokada Charitable Foundation with the support of Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo (AICS) in partnership with Bukovinian Agency for Initiatives and Development (BAID) and Un Ponte Per ETS (UPP).
