Economic violence: Rokada specialists in Kharkiv region continue their awareness-raising campaign
“Economic violence is one of the least visible forms of control, and that is exactly why it remains unnoticed for so long, even by the person experiencing it,” notes gender-based violence specialist Svitlana Tkachenko.
In the town of Liubotyn, the Rokada team brought together almost two dozen people for a conversation about the manifestations of economic violence, its consequences and ways to protect one’s rights.
“Economic violence is insidious because the person affected often does not realise the crisis for a long time. There is no bruise to show. Instead, there is a gradual loss of independence. It all starts with a simple phrase: ‘Why do you need your own card, I pay for everything anyway,’ and continues with a ban on working and total control over every hryvnia. As a result, a person is left not only without resources but also without faith in themselves. That is why the first thing we restore when working with those who have experienced economic violence is not money, but the confidence that financial independence is possible at all,” continues Svitlana Tkachenko.
The Foundation’s specialists remind you that a gender-based violence hotline operates in Kharkiv, where you can seek help: +38 067 120 92 03.
The project is implemented by the Rokada Charitable Foundation with the support of Agenzia Italiana per la Cooperazione allo Sviluppo (AICS) in partnership with the Bukovinian Agency for Initiatives and Development (BAID) and Un Ponte Per ETS (UPP).
