Rokada strengthens the reintegration of veterans in Ternopil and Zhytomyr regions

The Rokada team is launching a comprehensive support project for veterans and their families across the Ternopil and Zhytomyr regions. The charity’s specialists will provide psychosocial and legal counselling, alongside targeted assistance with employment and navigating essential public services. To guarantee the long-term sustainability of these services after the project concludes, they will be fully integrated into local government programmes and partner networks.

The initiative, titled Strengthening Community-Based Veteran Reintegration Systems in Ternopil and Zhytomyr Regions, is scheduled to run until 20 May 2027.

This project aims to bolster community resilience and contribute to Ukraine’s long-term recovery by empowering those who protected it.”

The Rokada initiative will focus on four key pillars:

Improving Access to Psychosocial Support. This will be delivered through individual and group counselling, family psychotherapy, and mobile teams operating in remote areas. These mobile deployments are expected to reach at least 2,000 veterans and their family members, with over 100 female veterans receiving tailored psychological care. Additionally, sustainable peer-support groups will be established, alongside groups facilitated by veterans who have undergone specialised training.

Expanding Employment and Economic Opportunities. The project will support career development and entrepreneurship through professional counselling, partnership with employment centres, and integration into local labour markets. Successful veteran employment is intended to stimulate local economic growth and encourage families to remain in their home communities.

Comprehensive Case Management. This pillar encompasses legal counselling, cross-service coordination, and dedicated case management. This integrated approach aims to enhance the social integration of veterans and their families while improving their access to state benefits and essential public services.

Ensuring the Sustainability of Local Reintegration Systems. The team will launch advocacy and fundraising campaigns to engage partners, local authorities, and businesses in securing long-term funding and support for veterans within their communities.

The initiative covers 17 territorial communities. This includes five in the Ternopil region (Ternopil, Lanivtsi, Trybukhivtsi, Kremenets, and Pidvolochysk) and twelve in the Zhytomyr region (Zhytomyr, Korosten, Semenivka, Ruzhyn, Bilokorovychi, Zviahel, Potiivka, Berdychiv, Novohuivynske, Brusyliv, Korostyshiv, and Ovruch).

The project is implemented by the Rokada Charitable Foundation through the Veteran Rehabilitation and Reintegration Programme, executed by IREX with the support of the U.S. Department of State.
